Xbox Indie Games Round Up – May 24th

Eleven new Xbox Indie Games in this round of up releases. Some interesting games in this round up so please let us know what you think of them via the comments.

Must Try Releases

Medsmeds is a retro inspired game based on the classic Breakout genre, but with a more modern twist. You play against a timer of sorts which is represented by a medical drip, as the drip empties you start to get withdrawal symptoms which can be all kinds of weird on screen visuals and game changing events such as falling pizza slices, teleports for balls to go through and many more. You can collect pills which may help or hinder the game with some weird and funny consequences. This game is absolutely bonkers and I loved it, one to check out! meds costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Project ZeroProject Zero is a vertical scrolling twin stick shooter. Initial impressions were not great but once the game got going it turned out to be an interesting shooter with plenty of enemies to destroy and debris to avoid. You can also go into hyperspace which turns the graphics into a red silhouette effect which was different. Shooter fans should check this out! Project Zero costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found on page 2.

Consider Trying

AllegoryAllegory is an action puzzle game in which you must defend The Follower from being hit by enemies with a shield. The Follower follows a kind of conveyor belt path, enemies gravitate towards it and you must repel them with your shield until The Follower reaches its goal. Graphics are a little basic but it is an interesting idea for a game. I did find the movement to be a bit over sensitive but that may be due to my infamous heavy handedness, worth checking out at least. Allegory costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Dr MazingDr Mazing is a side scrolling Beats of Rage style beat em up. Robots and Aliens (what… no zombies?) are taking over the world and you must fight your way through the levels to put an end to Lord Gazal Nim plans. Graphics are a kind of hand drawn artwork which gives it a cartoon like style and works fine, the characters could do with a little more frames of animation though. Controls work well but I did find it sometimes hard to kill the stationary robot turrets. It is not a bad game so do check it out. Dr Mazing costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found on page 2.

Nova LancerNova Lancer is a space based shooter and sees you taking on missions such as destroying a fleet of pirates which rewards you with cash that can be used to buy new ships and upgrades. It looks to be an OK game but I think the camera could have been zoomed out a little more as it felt too close. The space ship controls are also a little floaty but this could be down to the type of ship I was using. If you like space shooters it is worth checking out at least. Nova Lancer costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

OrbitroidOrbitroid is a shooter that sees you flying above a planet which you must destroy. Graphically the game looks great, very impressive, but I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do. The in game help provides little information and even watching the trailer learnt me nothing new. Give this game a try as it is clear a lot of effort has gone in to it, hopefully you can work it out. Orbitroid costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found on page 2.

UprisingUprising is a one to four player co-op twin stick shooter. You play as a computer virus that must break out of its system. Each level contains a number of enemies that must be destroyed with your ever evolving weapons. The game is played at a fast pace with enemies constantly hunting you down and it makes for some hectic gameplay. At the start of each level a short part of the story is told which adds some continuity to the game. The game did feel a little repetitive by the end of the trial which means it just missed out on the top spots but this is still well worth checking out. Uprising costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found on page 2.

Try If You Must

Avatar CalendarAvatar Calendar is as the name suggests a calendar for your Xbox 360. Although the presentation is a bit basic, the calendar does exactly what it is supposed to do and let you enter reminders for whatever day you want. A couple of search options such as jump to a specified date instead of having to scroll to it would have been handy but it is sadly missing. Avatar Calendar costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Battle TanksBattle Tanks is a shooter which can be played in single player or co-op mode locally. You control a tank and must defend your base against the attacking enemies which include tanks and aircraft. Graphics are OK, they do the job but I did find the tank turret controls a little confusing at times where I have been playing a few twin stick shooter games. I think the game would be more fun with a mate so if you have one handy give it a try, but ultimately the 240 :MSPoints: cost doesn’t seem to be great value. More information on Battle Tanks can be found here and a trailer on page 2.

Dossun IslandDossun Island is a side scrolling platform game. I did not like this game from the start, graphics are basic and the background scrolling is very disorientating as it scrolls way too fast in relation to the foreground. Controls are not great either, with floaty jumping and dodgy platform jumping. Give this one a miss! Dossun Island costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Knock Balls Spin To WinKnock Balls – Spin to Win is a two to four player game in which you each control marbles on a floating platform system. You can play in a number of game play modes such as Deathmatch and Goal Hunting and it could be quite fun with some friends. Unfortunately I was unable to try this game properly in multiplayer so I will reserve judgement, if you have one of more friends to play it could be worth checking out. Knock Balls – Spin to Win costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Titles that have received a software update or price change are Shoot 1UP, Change of color, NLL Lacrosse 2010, Text Zedventure and Wool.

Trailers for the new releases can be found on page 2.
