Xbox Indie Games Round Up – June 8th

A massive round up of releases, twenty games released since Thursday! My fingers are bleeding from playing so many games, spare a thought and leave a comment about any of the releases you have tried.

Worth Trying

Aah Little AtlantisAah Little Atlantis is a turn based puzzle/strategy where you must rescue Atlanteans from their sinking islands. It is well worth playing the tutorials to see what you are supposed to be doing. You basically fire water or meteors to make them move around the islands. An interesting game idea and if you like strategy games this is well worth checking out. Aah Little Atlantis costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

BlastBlast is a puzzle game where you must shoot a ball from barrel to barrel to make it to the end of the level, it reminded me a little of the bonus modes on Donkey Kong Country. A nice simple idea although graphics are a little basic, but they can be forgiven as the game plays very well. Blast costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer is available on page 2.

Blood TempestBlood Tempest is a 3D shooter set on the high seas where you drive a boat and must destroy enemy boats. There was a similar game released a couple of weeks ago but this seemed to be a bit more action packed. There are a nice choice of weapons to upgrade and purchase. Worth checking out if you are into shooters. Blood Tempest costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Chaos NodeChaos Node is a puzzle game with a bit of twin stick shooting thrown in for good measure. This is another game that is recommended to play the tutorial as it is a bit confusing as to what to do. Basically you need to destroy the nodes that match yours. Chaos Node costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, we will have a review of the game soon.

I Suck At Word GamesI Suck At: Word Games is a puzzle game where you must create words out of a grid of letters. Unlike other word games where you just get a few letters to choose from, you get 25  which makes things much easier. If you never liked word games because they were hard you should definitely check this one out as it is much more playable. I Suck At: Word Games costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found on page 2.

Prismatic-solidPrismatic Solid is a vertical shooter. Graphics look really nice and you have a decent selection of weapons which can be upgraded by collecting the icons left by dead enemies. The first stage did feel a little short and as there are only six stages I am not sure how long this game will last. It does cost 80 :MSPoints: so I think it is at least worth checking out. More information can be found here and a trailer on page 2.

SFG Beach VolleyballSFG Beach Volleyball is a 3D avatar volleyball game. Finally a volleyball game that plays well! Graphics look good and the game plays very well, the team AI if you are playing in single player was a bit stupid though as he didn’t bother going for a ball directly in his path. This would be great in two player so give it a try if you have a friend available. SFG Beach Volleyball costs 400 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found on page 2.

The Brain of BobThe Brain of Bob is a platform game set in the characters brain, Bob must complete the 30 levels to restore his sanity. The game seems to play well but something did not quite feel right, not sure what though. It looks to be a fairly good platform game but the 400 :MSPoints: price might be a little too high. More information can be found here, and a trailer on page 2.

Urban Space SquirrelsUrban Space Squirrels is a platform game with some puzzle elements. You play as a Squirrel and must find the exit to the level by firing bombs which can be exploded at will to provide extra jumping distance. Graphics are quite good, liked the Squirrel animation a lot. The game plays very well and seems to be well worth the 80 :MSPoints: asking price. More information can be found here and a trailer on page 2.

Consider Trying

Avatar Penalty ShootoutAvatar Penalty Shootout is the second in as many weeks football penalty shoot out game, is there some big tournament coming up or something? 🙂 The graphics and presentation are not as good as the other but I did find the game a little more fun to play as you can actually save the ball with some skill instead of pure luck. It is a trade off between good graphics or better game play, I go for the latter every time. Avatar Penalty Shootout costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Avatar TakedownAvatar Takedown is a sniper style game where thanks to the use of Avatars you do not get to see exploding limbs and headshots. Instead you fire tracer darts at your target and a cage falls on top of them. It takes the fun out of sniping so not really good enough to recommend unless you want to practice sniping without the blood and guts? Avatar Takedown costs 80 :MSPoints and more information can be found here.

FifteenFifteen is a sliding picture puzzle game where you need to slide the pieces into the correct order. Graphics look fairly good and the game seems to play well. It comes with a decent selection of images to play and you can also import your friends gamerpics to add some more images, not a bad idea. If you enjoy sliding picture puzzle games then it is worth checking out at it only costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Ice Crush 10000 BCIce Crush 10.000 B.C. is a puzzle game where you must slide a coloured block along the floor to destroy a matching block. The game plays well enough but there did not seem to be much to it. Also you may be affected slightly by your TV/monitors overscan as the blocks on the far left can be half missing. Ice Crush 10.000 B.C. costs 240 :MSPoints: which I think is too much, more information can be found here and a trailer on page 2.

Light Bikes 360Light Bikes 360 is a Tron like arcade game which also allows you fire at your opponents of which you can play up to three others CPU or Human. There is nothing wrong with the game but nothing that makes it stand out either. Single player against CPU was a little boring, maybe playing with some friends will liven it up. Light Bikes 360 costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Try if you must

Good Sir A Balloon RaceGood Sir, A Balloon Race! is an up to two player game where you must control the lift and fall of a hot air balloon to catch the slipstream. There is not really much to the game so one to avoid. Good Sir, A Balloon Race! costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Nice TryNice Try is a vertical scrolling arcade game, you control a hungry worm who must eat to survive. The scrolling is terrible and my eyes were hurting after 20 seconds of playing. Give this one a miss unless you don’t value your eyesight. Nice Try costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here and a trailer on page 2.

That Seagull Stole My ChipsThat Seagull Stole My Chips is a Duck Hunt style shooting game. Graphics are very basic and there is not much game play to keep you interested, let the Seagull have it’s chips, give it a miss! That Seagull Stole My Chips costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Video PokerVideo Poker is an arcade style gambling game where you bet on poker style hands. Three modes are available to play but it is let down by basic graphics and awkward controls. If you like gambling games you might find it of interest. Video Poker costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Titles that have received a software update or price change are Zombie Armageddon, Exhaust, Avatar Onslaught, TicTacToe, Audio Diagnostics, MoonShine, What The?!, Wacky Karts, Curling 2010, Spot The Difference and Creed Arena.

Trailers for the new releases can be found on page 2.
