The ongoing Story of Project Zomboid

As previously reported by Destructoid the completely community driven Project Zomboid was taken off of the developers servers momentarily due to the excessive amount of piracy taking place in the form of a version of the game where you could simply hit update to download the latest version of the game illegally. Now normally the developers said they wouldn’t be so bothered by this if it didn’t cost them data usage on their servers they pay for, so every illegal download took away money, not just “potential money” from them.

In lighter news, the game has been re-uploaded to their servers as a free pre-alpha tech demo momentarily on a different directory than the one used to pirate. So, why don’t you show some love to these hurt developers and try out their game and hopefully buy it (from what I played of it, albeit litte was great!) A game is only as strong as its community after all.

And if you’re feeling extra generous, help get the word out about the public demo here & here on Reddit via upvote for en masse good Zombie times to be had for all.

Opinion time: Pirating from an Indie developer is something I could never see myself, or anyone else doing. But sadly people will continue to do it, it’s all about ethics people. Why take potential money from a growing (usually unknown) team of three to four dedicated people who would use it to make their game better? Justify that.
