Wearable technology is starting to come to the fore, with companies vying for space on your body for their devices. On such space as your wrists: smart watches will change how you tell the time. The Pebble Smartwatch links wirelessly to your phone, supplying an extra screen to check notifications on. In fact, Pebble have recently announced the Steel, a more rugged cousin to the original device. Samsung has also come into the market with the Galaxy Gear and, again, has recently announced that it will update the device in April alongside a new generation of phones, improving on it’s 1.9MP camera and AMOLED screen. One of the most impressive devices, however, is meant for your head and eyes: the Oculus Rift – a Virtual Reality headset for the modern age – is wowing journalists with its 3D HD display, motion controls and a sense of immersion unmatched by anything else out there. It’s becoming so popular in fact that other companies are looking to develop their own headsets, the biggest ones including Sony and PC giants Valve, who are looking to standardize the field of VR headsets.
On the subject of displays, televisions are about to get a resolution boost – 4K TVs are on their way. This ultra high-definition age is being slowly ushered in and the future looks very colorful. Samsung has shown off its curved 4K TV that uses an OLED display, meaning not only more definition but brighter colors and much darker blacks. While companies like Samsung and LG are very much on the cutting edge of both technology and price, a smaller company named Kogan has quietly announce a 4K TV that runs the cellphone operating system Android for only £550 – around $900 – potentially making amazing image quality much more affordable. If you really want a look into the future, Sony have announced a projectors that’s not only a 4K display but is also a short throw setup – no clunky boxes at the end of the room or walking in the way of the screen. While there might be limited content that use the full resolution of these screens, some companies such as Netflix have begun stream in greater-than-HD quality, even beginning to film their new content in 4K quality.
