The Electronic Entertainment Expo, also known as E3, is about to open its doors for this years trade show. Now in its nineteenth year, the show has changed from a small private affair to a large worldwide recognised event.
E3 has always remained a trade-only event which means that the show is only accessible if you work within the industry. Applicants must go through an approval process by a governing body before they are able set foot inside. Back in 1995 visitors would have been able to see the release of the Sega Saturn, and the announcements of upcoming releases of the PlayStation, Virtual Boy and Neo-Geo CD. It was a great year to start E3 and was one of the largest show launches in history.
Over the years, E3 has grown but it has still remained a trade only event. The games and it’s platforms such as PC’s and consoles have also grown and enjoyed a lot of success. There are games suitable for all ages and tastes, from kids education, the latest first-person shooter and online gaming which you can read more about..
Gaming is now the most popular form of entertainment and all eyes are now fixed on the big three console manufacturers; Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to see what they will announce. Rumours bubble and leaks appear on websites such as IGN before their press conferences, and half the fun is deciding if the news is real or fake beforehand.
Thanks to the internet we are now able to watch the press conferences as they happen via live streams. Back in the early days, we could only wait for news in magazines and more recently online. Let’s hope E3 2014 doesn’t disappoint!
