Indie Games round up 8th December

All releases are played for the eight minutes allowed in trials and impressions are made from that. Note to developers: we have a backlog of several games to review so there will be a delay for any new reviews until after the New Year. If you still want your new game reviewed we are happy to do so but please expect a delay until we catch up.

Gerbil Physics is a puzzle game where you must use bombs to move the gerbils below a certain area on the screen. The gerbils are usually stacked in blocks so you place the bombs around them, wait for them to blow up and the physics take over to produce a chain reaction. I used to play a flash game similar to this and it is a lot of fun, there looked like some good puzzles to solve and it is well worth checking out! Gerbil Physics costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Hydro Electric Worker is an arcade game where you must repair power lines by climbing up them and entering a sequence of button presses. To make your job harder are diving birds, power spikes and dogs all of which will cost you a life. Upgrades can be purchased after each level including better tools. The graphics are very basic and I was getting a little bored by the end of the trial, one to try but just the trial unfortunately as it costs 240 :MSPoints: which is quite expensive, more information can be found here.

Ikaroids is a twin stick shooter which features a few modes including a Campaign and Survival mode. Graphics are nice and the game plays well. I did find moving the space craft a little strange though, possibly to do with the background scrolling, cant put my finger on it. The game seems fun and has a good difficulty challenge, worth checking out. Ikaroids costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

myChristmas is an interactive scene in which you can apparently do various tasks such as decorating a tree and go Christmas carolling with Avatars. I retried this trial as I did not know how to view anything apart from the fireplace in my original impression. You can decorate a tree with lights and baubles, listen to Christmas music and watch a clock. It is a bit more feature packed than the usual fireplace sims so might be worth checking out if you want something like this. myChristmas costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Bugrace is a maths based board game in which you must answer multiple choice answer multiplication questions. This is one for the kids to play and seems fun enough to keep them interested. Graphics are nice and there are a few animations when landing on red squares which were quite funny 🙂 If you have kids or bad at multiplication this is worth checking out. Bugrace costs 400 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Dual Zone is an action game where you control two craft with the left and right analogue sticks, one red and one blue. You hit the coloured enemies with the respective craft to destroy them. The trailer looked really interesting but I found the game to be a bit of a letdown and it was soon feeling very repetitive. Also I am heavy handed and could not get to grips with the movement speed of the craft, an option to change the sensitivity would have been nice for this kind of game. Check out the trial as I am sitting on the fence for this one. Dual Zone costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Duel: The Art of Combat is an action game where you must destroy your opponents, think of it as a realtime version of Worms. The graphics are not bad but I found the gameplay quite basic and the AI a little lacking. This would more likely be a lot more fun playing with a friend, worth checking out. Duel: The Art of Combat costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Fractal Dive is an application that lets you explore Fractals. There seems to be a decent amount of fractals to explore with various options to choose from. This is one most likely for people interested in fractals only. Fractal Dive costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Oichokabu Online is a Japanese card game, unfortunately this game is likely to be only possible to play if you can read Japanese or possibly know how to already play the card game. I know neither so I was unable to try this game. The game costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Pixelpix is a Picross style game where you must fill in the grid according to the numbers on the sides. I am a big fan of Picross games and while this does not have the presentation and number of puzzles that XCross does it seems to be fine though a little on the minimalistic side. If you like Picross games you should check this out, Pixelpix costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Powa Volley Classic is a cut down version of Powa Volley featuring two fields to play. As with cut down versions it is usually better to buy the full version so I would suggest trying the original version trial and decide from that. Powa Volley Classic costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Guardian is a shooter game where you rotate around the earth shooting incoming asteroids and alien ships. As you rotate around the earth you can only fire directly at the enemies otherwise you may hit the planet which destroys the shields. It is an interesting game but I found the aiming target a little slow to control in relation to the speed of the craft. Guardian costs 240 :MSPoints and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Titles that have received a software update or price change are Doodleman, Nasty, StarField Battle, Banana Split, Ninja Guardian, Superspace and Mahjong (Japan only).
